Unconventional Diplomacy

The mission of the UDG is to promote the conceptual development and operational implementation of medical, health and disaster diplomacy. International geopolitics is increasingly complex, dynamic and dangerous. Comprehensive diplomatic strategies can no longer be confined to the ante room of western embassies. A more aggressive, expeditionary and “boots on the ground” approach is necessary to address the increasingly dangerous “low intensity” conflicts that engulf the current system. Disaster, medical and health diplomacy offer opportunities to never “let a crisis go to waste.” Currently, no operational definition and cohesive strategy for integration of these tools exists in the United States diplomatic armamentarium. OMI works in conjunction with the military agencies, humanitarian organizations, academic institutions and practitioners in the field in efforts to both avert and effectively respond to crisis. Dr. Callaway is OMI’s lead Officer in the UDG. For more information contact OMI UDG.
